What can I expect?
You can expect to have fun! During the beginner lesson for the 30 min prior to the dance you’ll learn the 6-count basic, which is what some people call East Coast Swing, along with 3-4 moves. The moves vary from week to week. We will rotate partners during the lesson, so you don’t need a partner to join. During the dance, you can expect to see everyone switching partners, dancing, talking and laughing.

What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. You’ll usually see us in jeans or chinos. Choose shoes without much tread on the bottom, but are comfortable and support your foot. Ladies, you’ll want a shoe that holds onto your foot, something like a loafer or a shoe with a strap. Attire is pretty casual. Jeans, chinos, or cords are all good options. Sometimes girls wear skirt, especially once the weather gets warmer.

What about partners?
Some folks come to Naptown Swing with a partner, but the vast majority do not.

What is the space at the Eastport Democratic Club like?
The Eastport Democratic Club is a private club with a bar that is only open to members. Gottaswing rents space where Naptown Swing is held. The door to where the dance is held opens onto State Street. Please use this entrance.

How old are the people that come to Naptown Swing?
Dancers of all ages, from high school to retirees, dance at Naptown Swing. Most are somewhere in the middle.
